Skoda Auto India is gearing up to launch its own one-make racing series, featuring the Skoda Kylaq Cup. This initiative is designed to showcase the sporty and dynamic nature of the Kylaq while providing an affordable and competitive platform for aspiring racers.

The Kylaq Cup Race Car: More Power, More Performance

The standard Skoda Kylaq comes with a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing 115hp and 178 Nm of torque. However, the race-spec Kylaq Cup car will be a purpose-built machine, taking performance to the next level.

Here’s what makes it special:

  • Upgraded MQB 37 platform for enhanced agility and strength
  • 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine (used in the Octavia, Superb, and Kodiaq)
  • Over 300hp and 450Nm of torque, tuned for track racing
  • Reinforced roll cage for driver safety
  • High-performance brakes for better stopping power
  • Track-tuned suspension for sharper handling
  • Racing slick tyres for maximum grip

This setup transforms the Kylaq from a compact SUV into a full-fledged race car, engineered for speed, precision, and adrenaline-pumping performance.

Skoda’s Motorsport Legacy in India

While Skoda has supported motorsport in India through its rally-spec Fabia R5, the Kylaq Cup marks the company’s first official racing series. This move brings Skoda into India’s track racing scene, alongside brands like Maruti Suzuki and Volkswagen.

Volkswagen has been actively involved in Indian motorsports since 2010, running successful series like the Polo Cup, Vento Cup, and Ameo Cup. However, after Volkswagen Motorsport India was transferred to Rayo Racing in 2022, the brand’s direct involvement in racing ended.

With the Kylaq Cup, Skoda is stepping in to fill that void, giving motorsport enthusiasts a fresh and exciting opportunity.

When Will the Kylaq Cup Start?

As Skoda celebrates 125 years of motorsport history and 25 years in India, the timing couldn’t be better for launching this racing series. Though a launch date hasn’t been confirmed, Janeba stated:

"We don’t want to make promises we can’t keep, but we’re pushing to develop prototype cars soon."

With the Kylaq Cup Racing Series, Skoda is not just bringing another race to the track—it’s shaping the future of motorsport in India.
