Supercars driver James Golding has confirmed his participation in the Stars of Karting event, which will take place just before the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix. Additionally, he will compete in the full SP Tools Australian Kart Championship (AKC) 2025 season.
Golding, a past AKC round winner in the KZ2 Gearbox category, will be on the grid for the Stars of Karting race on March 10 during Grand Prix week. Just two weeks later, he will kick off his championship campaign at Todd Road’s Port Melbourne track.
Golding Excited for a Full Season
Talking about his decision to compete, Golding shared,
"Racing enthusiasts will have plenty to enjoy in Melbourne with the Grand Prix and Stars of Karting happening back-to-back. Since I’ll be in town, it’s a great opportunity to stay sharp for Supercars. Plus, racing in the full AKC season, starting with Round 1 at Todd Road, is the perfect warm-up."
Golding previously had scheduling conflicts with Supercars and Trans AM, preventing him from committing to the AKC. However, with no clashes this year, he is all set to take on the championship.
A Strong Addition to the AKC Grid
Currently ninth in the Supercars Championship standings after the opening round in Sydney, Golding’s return to karting is a big boost for the series. The SP Tools AKC season will feature rounds in Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle, Ipswich, and Coffs Harbour, where the championship finale will take place.
The Stars of Karting event has now become a key part of Grand Prix week in Melbourne, attracting top drivers from Australia and New Zealand. Scheduled for Monday, March 10, it will feature a fast-paced twilight race format.
Although celebrity karting races have been held before under Karting Australia's partnership with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, this will be the first time a national-level karting event happens so close to Albert Park.

Historic Venue and More Exciting Names Expected
Todd Road has a rich history in karting, hosting national championships and the former Oceania Championships. It is also the track where Oscar Piastri made history by winning in the KA2 category a decade ago, and where Jack Doohan claimed his KA2 Australian Championship.
Several Formula 1 and motorsport figures are expected to attend the event, with another major driver announcement coming soon.
